Volunteers from both private and public sectors trooped to General Emilio Aguinaldo National High School to actively participate in Brigada Eskwela 2019, with a theme: “Matatag na Bayan para sa Maunlad na Paaralan.” For the entire week, from May 20 to 25, the local community aided the school in cleaning classrooms, repainting walls, and repairing armchairs, in preparation for the influx of students on June 3. Also known as the National Schools Maintenance Week, Brigada Eskwela mobilizes parents, students, teachers, alumni, local government units, non-government organizations, local businesses and private individuals who offer their help and resources in doing clean-up, repair and maintenance work of public elementary and secondary schools prior to the opening of classes. Mrs. Lerma V. Peña, GEANHS’ School Principal, expressed her sentiments during the Closing Ceremony of the week-long activity: “Sa ating pagtutulungan, tiyak na magiging handa na ang GEANHS sa pagdating ng ating mga mag-aaral. Ako ay nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng tumulong—sa mga magulang, sa ating GPTA, sa mga guro sa pangunguna ng Department Heads, at sa ating mga stakeholders na walang sawang sumusuporta sa atin. Dahil sa ating pagmamalasakit ay tiyak na magiging maayos at matagumpay ang darating na taon.” This incoming school year, more than 9,400 high school students will be enjoying refurbished classrooms and school facilities that are more learning-conducive, thanks to the efforts of teachers, parents and volunteers.
