With the advent of e-commerce and small online businesses, young people often forget that agriculture has once been the primary enterprise in the country. With the aim to strengthen the youth’s  awareness on agriculture, anchored by the Gulayan sa Paaralan Project by the Department of Education, this year’s Nutrition Month has the theme: “Ugaliing magtaninm, Sapat na nutrisyon aanihin!”
GEANHS joined the bandwagon in sharing the gift of agriculture to young people by adding Vegetable Planting Competition in its annual roster of activities. Ms. Merizza Tabacon, chairman of the competition, shared the importance of knowing how to plant vegetables and small fruit crops: “Through gardening, our students can learn patience, resourcefulness and responsibility.”
Nutrition Month 2018, held during the whole month of July, also showcased the talents and skills of students not only in Agri-Fishery Arts, but as well as in Industrial Arts, Home Economics, and Information and Communications Technology. TLE teachers organized and implemented these competitions in order to enrich the technical skills of students in preparation for employment and entrepreneurship. “Backyard gardening, like any other technical skill is an avenue for entrepreneurship, which leads to self-sufficiency. By teaching them how to plant, cook, and fix electronic or electrical fixtures, we empower them with the necessary tools for survival.” Mrs. Crisanta F. Caudal, chairman of the Nutrition Month Celebration, stated.
